ABOUT CHILEAN CARMÉNÈRE
Chilean Carménère is one of the most remarkable comeback stories in the wine world. Originally from Bordeaux, this grape was believed to be extinct after the phylloxera epidemic of the 1860s until it was rediscovered in Chilean vineyards in 1994. For over a century, it was mistakenly identified as Merlot, growing quietly in Chilean soil. Since its proper identification, Carménère has become Chile's signature grape, thriving in the Central Valley's ideal climate. The grape's late-ripening nature benefits from Chile's long, dry growing season and dramatic diurnal temperature fluctuations. Chilean Carménère is celebrated for its distinctive spicy character, often displaying notes of green bell pepper, dark fruits, and warming spices. This unique varietal has put Chile on the map for producing wines with a character found nowhere else in the world.
